Why the Need for an ITIL Process Framework
There are a number of IT process frameworks such as CMMI, COBIT, ISO 20000 and ITIL. Compared to the others, ITIL focuses on IT operation.
IT organizations use process frameworks for different reasons, such as:
- justifying investments and other key decisions
- providing credibility to their practices and
- supporting process-improvement initiatives.
The tool helps integrate the frameworks into a process blueprint for the IT organization.
The process frameworks are intended to be best-practice guidelines, not one-size-fits-all solutions. The frameworks must be adapted to the organizational goals and needs.
